Keanu Reeves’ Brawn GP Documentary Has A Release Date

Ever since Drive to Survive took Netflix by storm, TV and film producers have been clamouring for anything Formula One. Of course, there’s the film Brad Pitt’s been working on quite publicly, and ‘Ferrari’ will be hitting cinemas at the end of the year - and now Keanu Reeves is in on the action.

Set to arrive on 15 November on Disney+, ‘Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story’ will focus on Brawn GP’s barely-believable 2009 season.

Spoilers in case you didn't already know - the team emerged from the ashes of a late-2008 Honda withdrawal before going on to win 8 races the following season, picking up the Constructor’s Championship and handing Jenson Button his sole title. Following its remarkable season, Mercedes would swoop in to take over the outfit.

Reeves, known for The Matrix and more recently starring in John Wick and the video game Cyberpunk 2077, will be telling the story and speaking to some big names involved along the way.

Disney promises input from Jenson Button, along with team founder and Formula 1 legend Ross Brawn, second-driver Rubens Barichello and the Brawn GP’s CEO - Nick Fry. Even Christian Horner will make an appearance, with Red Bull Racing providing the closest challenge to the Brackley-based constructor that year.

It won’t just be a rehash of interviews and racing we’ve seen before, either. Disney adds that much of the documentary is ‘previously unseen’ footage delved from the F1 archives.

The four-part series has been produced, developed and written by three-time BAFTA winner Neil Duncanson along with Simon Hammerson. Directing is Daryl Goodrich, winner of the 2022 Broadcast Best Sports Documentary award, so there’s some proper expertise going into this.
