On paper, the Koenigsegg Jesko’s V8 is an impressive thing - officially, the hypercar dumps a monstrous 1,578bhp and 1,106lb ft of torque. Though you can never be quite sure of how accurate manufacturer figures are, some often underrating, and others cheekily suggesting more than is true.

Well, in the case of Koenigsegg, it hasn’t been afraid to back up its claims with evidence - and the result is pretty impressive.

Company founder Christian von Koenigsegg takes us on a tour of the Jesko’s 5.0-litre powerplant being made, giving us an intimate look at the engineering behind hypercars so few of us ever see.

It’s certainly worth a watch from the beginning to truly take in the genius behind the unit, including a deep dive on the car’s nine-speed ‘Light Speed Transmission’ multi-clutch gearbox. There’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it look at the area where the upcoming Gemera’s mind-boggling 2.0-litre inline-three powerplant will be produced.

The real excitement comes at the end of the video. Ran on a dyno, the unit tested is proven to offer more power than the official claims - with 1,592bhp and 1,173lb ft of torque - all while we get to hear it roar its way to 8,000rpm.

Granted, those figures with the car running on E85 fuel. Handily, Koenigsegg also shows us a test with the V8 running solely on 95 RON pump fuel, with that producing 1,271bhp and 1,266lb ft.

As Koenigsegg himself goes on to describe it, there’s no denying the engine is “a beast”, though apparently a “friendly beast.”
