Reborn TWR Has Roped Porschephile Magnus Walker In For Its First Project

Tom Walkinshaw Racing, famous for its race-prepped Jaguars, is returning seemingly as a Singer-esque firm and has now brought Magnus Walker on board

A couple of weeks ago, it was confirmed TWR would be coming back from the dead as a maker of ‘bespoke high-performance automobiles’. What that meant exactly was a mystery, but we look to have some kind of an answer now - with Magnus Walker also joining the project.

Tom Walkinshaw Racing was once pretty chummy with Jaguar, with the two companies coming together to create the legendary, Silk Cut-sponsored series of XJR sports cars, which chalked up numerous World Sportscar Championship titles and a couple of 24 Hours of Le Mans victories. Away from the track, it also played a key role in making the XJ220 and XJR-15 supercars a reality.

With that in mind, it’s no shock its first creation is set to be based on a Jaguar XJS, albeit it ‘reimagined’. Sounds an awful lot like one particular company that’s known for its Porsches

On that point, renowned Porsche collector and modifier Magnus Walker has been brought in as a design consultant. Apparently, he’s been involved in every step of the project - including the suppliers used, its V12 engine and even the way the car drives.

Walker said: “I was approached by TWR to do something I actually want to do: to build on the XJS. The original TWR put Jaguar on the map in the late ’70s, ’80s, and into the ’90s. TWR was a racing division of Jaguar and did so much more. TWR explained the project, which was just what I was looking to do, and I was in. The stars aligned perfectly.”

Also involved with TWR’s first project will be Khyzyl Saleem, who has gained a following for his digital renderings and owner of a particularly cool self-designed wide-bodied BMW E36.

No word yet on when we’ll see TWR’s first creation, though the rebirth of the firm has been quietly cooking since 2020 with Fergus Walkinshaw, son of founder Tom, only now beginning to make some noise.
