The Rimac Comes With 8 Years’ Free Charging, But For £1.7m It Probably Should Do

Splashed £1.7m out on a Rimac Nevera, but a little concerned you won’t be able to afford the electricity to run it? Fear not - you’ll be getting eight years' worth of free charging.

As part of a new collab between Rimac and charging network Ionity, each buyer of the 150 Rimac Neveras available will be able to use the Ionity network at zero cost for eight years from delivering the car.

We did the math so you didn’t have to - at Ionity’s UK price of 74p per kWh, it’d take 19,144 flat-to-full charges of the hypercar 120kWh battery to recoup the cost of it. Provided you don’t add any options to the £1.7m base price, that is.

Not that you’ll struggle to run it out of charge driving it at full pelt, mind. After all, the quad-motor hypercar produces 1,888bhp and has managed a 1.74 0-62mph sprint. It’s even proven itself capable of thrashing an F1 car in a drag race.

Drive it more sedately, and the officially tested range comes in at 304 miles. Hit that, and you’d need to cover 5,819,776 miles to need those 19,144 charges (We’re not factoring in battery degradation or weather here, we’re not that clever).

Mate Rimac, the Croatian manufacturer’s founder, said: “When people think of Rimac, they think of the record-breaking performance that the Nevera delivers, as well as the groundbreaking technologies at the heart of the company.

“Yet, the Nevera was primarily developed as a hyper GT, rather than a track-focused car – it is a user-friendly hypercar. The collaboration with Ionity allows us to take this experience to the next level.”

Ionity will also be installing six publicly-usable chargers at Rimac’s new HQ in this new deal, which will be handy for owners making a factory visit no doubt, as well as others across the site for company use.
