Forza Customs is a new mobile game focused on restoring cars by… completing match-three puzzles. Yikes.
There’s A New Forza Game, But It Doesn’t Involve Racing

It was only last month Forza Motorsport made its return as the go-to ‘simcade’ racer for Xbox consoles, but before the dust has even settled on its launch there’s a new game in the series. Only, this one doesn’t involve any racing.

Forza Customs, available now as a free-to-play mobile game, focuses on restoring and customising cars around a set theme - including Drift, Off-road and Drag. It’s made by Hutch Games, makers of Top Trumps-esque Top Drives, with Turn 10 also offering input, so there is some proper pedigree behind it.

The idea of a mobile Forza focused on customising isn't a bad one

An interesting premise on paper, but to unlock parts, you’ll need points. Well, with no racing, how do you get them? With Candy Crush-style match-three puzzles, of course. Yes, we heard you groan at the back.

We gave the game a quick go, and in all honesty, it’s probably worth no more time than that. The puzzles themselves are no different to any other match-three type game (there aren’t even themed pieces, just generic shapes and colours) and though the customisation is interesting it’s not worth the mundane slog.

Being a free-to-play mobile title in 2023, it’s also rife with a separate premium currency purchasable with microtransactions. £1.99 nets you 1,000 gold, with the “Best Value” option 60,000 gold at £89.99. It’s not clear initially what gold actually gets you Forza Customs, either - though granted our desire to keep playing perhaps left before we could find out.

It's not the first time Forza has gone mobile. Before this, Forza Streets came along with the mechanic of tapping at the right time to turn a corner, though that was shut down in early 2022.

In case you’re curious, Forza Customs is available now on Android and iOS. We think your time is better spent playing the real Forza titles though, or on any of these free games.
